Topic: How I am dealing with emotional numbness and connecting with my feelings
## Introduction
Certain life circumstances caused my feelings to completely numb out. There are times when I don't clearly know what I'm feeling about a certain situation or interaction. It's like, I just feel completely blank and confused.
Maybe this was a survival response to certain overwhelming situations in the past. It probably kept me safe from feeling too much. But this response is no longer needed. I am glad I'm aware of it. With this awareness, I can make a plan to address it.
## Why did I numb out?
1. Childhood invalidation
1. A self-vow to not express anger
1. Samata
1. Overwhelmed by other people's emotions and demands
1. Thought of self-care as selfishness
1. Reasons I don't know of yet
## What have I tried?
1. Reiki

1. Energy healing
1. Ancestral healing
1. Meds
1. Sound healing
## What's working?
1. Music
1. Movies
1. Books - fiction and memoirs (self-help has been the least helpful)
1. The slow process of reorienting my attention to myself
