I had a conversation the other day with Zachabout how a teenaged character in his work-in-progress uses the term ‘mentor’ to refer to a teacher.
I was really interested in what that little bit of internal dialogue said about his character. It seemed to me that a sixteen-year-old kid who independently calls a teacher a mentor is a kid who takes himself and his education seriously.
Maybe a little too seriously, right? There’s a hint of self-importance there.
