Making Money as a Writer Takes as Long as it Takes
Not the answer we want, but it's the answer we have.

I hope I don’t have to do a lot of work here, convincing you that it’s okay to be paid for your work.
It is. You aren’t a worse writer for thinking about things like market and royalties. You aren’t a worse writer for putting those things in a forward position in your mind.
Writing is a business, the same as any other business.
But here’s the thing: it’s a business that sometimes has a big fat learning curve and often requires years between deciding to write to for money and the actual money landing in your bank account.
And it can be super frustrating when someone’s telling you that all you have to do is put in the work and the money will follow, when you’re in the part (however long it lasts) before the money is actually there.
So what I want to touch on today is how you get through those in between years. The years when your writing business is in the red.
