How to Slow Down and Write Better
Write fast in November if NaNoWriMo is calling to you. Here’s a plan for the rest of the year.
I learned a big lesson when I first started Ninja Writers.
I absolutely cannot compete with NaNoWriMo.
In case you’re unaware (which seems impossible), NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. The challenge, taken up by millions of starry-eyed writers every year, is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.
Whenever I ask Ninja Writers if they’ve written a novel before, there’s a healthy cohort who proudly let me know that of course they have. They’ve won NaNoWriMo for X number of years.
And they’re so proud of themselves. As they should be. Writing a book is a massive project and if you get to the end of a manuscript, it really is something to be proud of.
Full stop.
But I want more than that for you.
I want you to have the writing career that you really want. The one where you’re published and you know, every time you finish a manuscript, that it’s the best thing you’ve ever written.
