BYOB: How to Use a Digital Plot Board to Plan Your Blog Posts
Hacking a tool designed for novelists.
I love a simple tool. Just the exact right thing to do just what I need done.
And if I can hack that tool out of something else? Even better. Because then I get to feel like a genius. Bonus, right?
I use an analog plot board for my novels. It’s made out of a tri-fold cardboard and sticky notes, and it’s hard for me to imagine ever switching completely to something else.
But I teach a lot of writers, and I get asked a lot about how the plot board could be made digital. Maybe in Scrivener is the suggestion that comes up a lot. The only problem is that I’m such an analog girl — Scrivener feels like taking a chainsaw to a birthday cake. Too much tool for what I need.
I’ve tried and tried and I just can’t make Scrivener work for me.
I finally found a tool called Dabble that works for me, is digital (including an app so you can work offline,) and does just what I want it to. I’ll write more about that for novel writing later.
But today I’m super excited to tell you that I figured out a way to hack Dabble so that it will work like a charm for planning and managing your Blog-Your-Own-Book Challenge project.
Let me show you.
