2026: Day 4
The Dopamine Experiment
Good morning!
Today’s song is New Day by Alicia Keys. This was a strange one for me. When I listened on my phone, it had a weird kind of dissonance in the drum line that I didn’t like. But, when I went to get the video link for you all, on my computer it sounded much, much better.
I didn’t add it to my playlist for that reason, but I think you all will like this one.
Today’s reading is from On Photography by Susan Sontag. It’s a collection of essays from the 1970s about…you guessed it…photography. And it’s Sontag, so the sample is beautifully written.
Here’s a quote I added to my commonplace book: Life is not about significant details, illuminated a flash, fixed forever. Photographs are.
Today’s journal prompt: What part of you is stronger than you thought?

Don’t forget to click the heart or leave a comment to let me know you’re enjoying this series. I’m committed to posting daily through August, but I’d love to know that you’re out there. It’s my favorite dopamine hit!

Hi Shaunta, I just wanted to say that these always brighten up my day. Thank you for posting them! Today's reading also reminded me of my 20s (a few decades ago!) when I was into photography (old school analog, printed in a darkroom) and discovered Sontag's book for the first time. I must dig it out and reread it! :)
You cannot go too wrong with Alicia Keys. But I agree about the drums in your song of the day. They overpowered her in places. I think the song was overproduced.
What a great quote today. A Susan Sontag book might be one of the books I put on my TBR for the year. I have never read any of her books.
