The dictionary definition of creativity is pretty straight forward.
Creativity is a noun that means: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.
Sometimes it’s used to describe a person. Creatives are people who use imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of artistic work.
Here’s the thing though. It is entirely possible to be a creative who has been abandoned by creativity. It happens to everyone.
Sometimes we just get caught up in what it takes to survive in the world. Work, laundry, PTA meetings — whatever. All the stuff that matters more than your story or your painting or whatever.
Sometimes all the little things that chip away at actual creative work can feel like creativity. And sometimes it’s easier to believe that it is, because creative work can be so hard.
Creativity has to be nurtured. There are some amazing people who have figured out how to do that. And they put what they know into books for us. Isn’t that cool?
Spending a year with these books could be a life-changing experience, especially if do the work inside them.
